Today’s heat wave has me craving my Aunt Ede’s creamy cucumbers! 💚

This light and creamy cucumber salad has been making appearances at our family table for decades, but I’ll always associate it with Ede and picture her in her kitchen overlooking Cass Lake in northern Minnesota, where garden cucumbers and simple home-cooked meals were in abundance.

Grateful to have this well-loved recipe card in my mom’s handwriting, but you can also find the recipe in the Memorable Mains & Sides chapter of my cookbook! (Appears my mom must have been adjusting the recipe for a potluck!😂)

Tip: My mom used to make these cucumbers with @topthetater instead of sour cream. Get yourself a bag of Old Dutch chips, and you’ve got the perfect supper for a hot night.☀️

🤗Fun event alert!! 🤗

I will be at Sholom, a beautiful senior living community in St. Paul tomorrow afternoon, and the event is open to the public! I’ll share a presentation about me, my passion for heirloom recipes, how my book came to be, and we’ll open the floor for some real-time dish and telling with the residents and attendees! It’s always so fun to hear about others’ family-favorite recipes and food memories handed down through the generations, and I can’t think of a more perfect setting to have this type of conversation. 💕

Hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day!! A few snapshots from my weekend ❤️ pretty flowers, happy hour with my mom, cuddles with Dolly, beautiful Lake Superior views, Sammy’s Pizza, and an incredible Oreo strawberry dessert made by Mary Lou and Kara to cap off the weekend!

Not pictured: an amazing brunch with Duluth’s Best Bread pasties (thanks, Jered!), a delicious dinner prepared by Kara and Charlie, FaceTimes with Lucy in NYC, and quality time with Charlie — all reminding me how lucky I am to be a mom. 💕

As I was shuffling through my closet looking at my options for what to wear to my book event tonight, one of the sweaters that’s a contender slipped off this gorgeous satin hanger that once belonged to my grandma.💗

Frances aka “Grandma Granley” was my fancy grandma…a fashionista for her time with a huge walk-in closet that housed loads of clothes and shoes from high heels to tall boots to a massive collection of KEDS in her later years. The closet was in her own bedroom that had pretty pink area rugs, a collection of glass perfume bottles and a TV (!) that she’d let me watch “Donny & Marie” on into the late night hours whenever I’d sleep over. I miss her so much! I don’t know if I believe in “signs” but maybe just maybe I need to wear the vintage pink sweater that slipped of this hanger tonight! 💕
