I have cookies on the brain today. It could be because the @startribune announced the winners of its annual holiday cookie contest (congrats to the winners!) or maybe because it’s National Cookie Day. Either way, I am planning out my annual Christmas baking bucket list. I’ll make a variety of our family’s tried and true recipes plus a few “new to me” ones, but glazed sugar cookies are probably my most favorite to make (and eat!). So many fun memories decorating cookies as a kid with my brothers while and Alvin and the Chipmunks played in the background! 🤪

One of my biggest sources of inspiration for “new” recipes? The ones that I have accumulated from family, including this impressive collection from Jaye’s sweet grandma, whom we called Gam. I am pulling out a few of her cookie recipes to make this holiday season and am excited to feel her presence as I bake away. I may even have to don her festive apron while I do it! ♥️

If you’ve missed the news, I have a cookbook coming out in February! 🤗 “Dish & Tell: Recipes from the Heart” is a collection of cherished family recipes and the stories behind them, from my recipe box as well as other passionate home cooks in and around Minnesota.

While the book won’t ship until early next year, I wanted to offer something you can wrap and gift now: a little preview of the book and something to encourage storytelling in the kitchen of your own loved ones.💕

Through December 12, I’m selling Dish & Tell recipe card sets that feature the same vintage-inspired artwork as the book and include space to “dish & tell” the story behind a favorite recipe. They make a nice companion gift for anyone pre-ordering the cookbook, or as a sweet standalone present for the recipe-keepers in your life.

Each set includes 10 recipe cards with two sizes to choose from, depending on the size of your recipe box!

Popcorn and cranberries are such a sweet memory of Christmas at my parents’ house. 🎄 From an early age, my mom would have me and my brothers hard at work threading them while we sat in front of the TV. It would take all of us pitching in as we always had very large trees! More recently, I helped my parents in the last years at their house to continue the tradition. Such a fun and festive way to add some color and a vintage touch to your tree! ♥️💚♥️

It’s go time! Today I’m leaning on these tried and true recipes I wrote out on their own special recipe cards many years ago. I love pulling them out each Thanksgiving to guide me through the day!🧡

Do you have a gluten-free loved one in your life coming to Thanksgiving? I thought I would share a few of my favorite GF products (and one recipe) I love and that work well to make our family favorites for the big feast!

🧡 PUMPKIN PIE: Pumpkin Pie Squares are a great GF option when subbing in Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 GF Baking flour. And even better? These bars can be made in a 9 x 13 pan!
🧡 OTHER PIES: I use this crust from Wholly Gluten Free for both sweet and savory pies! Just bake it 15 minutes or so until it gets a little color before adding your filling to bake.
🧡 STUFFING: I use Aleias boxed stuffing mix as a base for my mom’s stuffing recipe that mixes in Jimmy Dean sausage, celery, onions and carrots (for color)! It seems to hold up and is pert near the same as the original.
🧡 GRAVY: I just swap in some all-purpose gluten-free flour such as the one from King Arthur and have had zero complaints.
🧡 SCALLOPED CORN: We love a basic creamed corn, topped with buttery saltines for all of our holiday meals. I’ve found these crackers from Schar work well to make this dish gluten-free.

I just learned it’s a vintage tomato server, used to help strain the juice away before plating tomatoes. But guess what?! You can also use it for cranberries which is what I intend to do on Thursday!
