A gussied-up version of a traditional chocolate chip cookie, these cookies include rich, tender shortbread combined with semi-sweet chocolate chips and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar.

I have eaten a lot of cookies in my years, but these Chocolate Chips Shortbreads are still my top choice when I have a cookie craving (which is often) or want to make a special treat for friends and loved ones. They have the most scrumptious, shortbread texture, the perfect amount of sweetness and, yesssssssss, chocolate!

My Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies (top right) got a third place ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair! Visiting the Creative Arts building to see all the award-winning baked goods in the display cases is one of my favorite things to do at the fair each year.

I love these cookies so much I entered them in the 2022 Minnesota State Fair’s Blue Ribbon Baking Contest this year and they got a third place ribbon! The judges’ comments read, “great taste, they melt in your mouth.” I couldn’t agree more!

Why You’ll Love these Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies

  • Besides their irresistible taste and texture, these award-winning cookies are so easy to make with a short ingredient list and a few simple steps.
  • A gussied up version of regular chocolate chip cookies, these pretty cookies make for a perfect addition to adorn treat trays or a dessert table at a potluck or shower. They are also a very “giftable” cookie!
  • They freeze well! I should know as my mom often has a batch of these cookies in the freezer for me when I go home to visit.
