At tables like this one—where women gathered, shared what they had, and passed recipes (and stories) from hand to hand. And now, we get to carry them forward!💕

If you are a bit nostalgic and appreciate recipes of yesteryear, have a soft spot for handwritten recipe cards or adore pictures like this one, then this book is for you! Details at link in bio.😘

This past Saturday, we even stopped by @kare11 to make this special cake—because yes, she really is a star!⭐️

This sweet family-operated bookstore in the heart of New Ulm puts on such fun events! We will have a potluck-style “dish & tell” event with attendees invited to make and bring a dish from the book to share. I will make something too…maybe the Dill Pickle Pasta Salad? Or how about Juicy Lucy Tater Tot Hotdish…using some Schell’s Beer for the beer-infused binder that puts this hotdish over the top?!

Also, those who buy a book at the store get a blank “dish & tell” recipe card to fill out with one of their cherished family recipes that we will swap at the event. Hope to see you there!

Which makes it the perfect time to make a batch of Get Well Chicken Soup—one of the cherished, family recipes in “Dish and Tell: Recipes from the Heart.”

This recipe comes from my dear neighbor, Carol.

It’s the kind of soup carried across state lines after a new baby. The kind poured into pint jars for friends who are sick, welcoming a new little one, or simply in need of extra love.

The kind made slowly (over two days) because love isn’t meant to be rushed. Stock first, then homemade noodles made from a recipe passed down from Carol’s beloved neighbor, Grandma Ev (who once cooked for advice columnist Ann Landers!).

If you or your loved ones are under the weather, this one’s for you.

Thank you to everyone who came to my cookbook launch on Saturday!

Seeing so many familiar faces gathered to celebrate “Dish and Tell” meant more to me than I can say. Family, friends, neighbors, recipe contributors who are featured in the book — wow. I’m still a little verklempt that so many of you showed up from near and far!!

This book began as a small idea in my heart, shaped by the ladies in my family aka the “keepers” who taught me that food is love. To stand in a room filled with people who helped bring it to life felt surreal and deeply humbling.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for celebrating with me. 😘

It’s a book that began as a love letter to the recipes and stories from my family but grew into a celebration of kitchens all across Minnesota. The classic, tried and true dishes handed down through the generations. The potluck party pleasers and church-basement favorites. The handwritten recipe cards. The dishes that remind us of home.💕

I’m so grateful to the families who shared their cherished recipes with me and gave me a seat at their tables, the amazing team at @mnhspress, Sue Everson for the beautiful book design, and Rachael White from @setthetablephotography for capturing the heart of this book through the cover and so many of the stunning images inside! 😘

The book is officially out in the world as of today, and I’m sending it off with all my heart.❤️

XOXO,
Sarah
