Loving the cooler temps today! I am warming up wit Loving the cooler temps today! I am warming up with my morning coffee and some leftover treats from my book event last weekend: Pumpkin Bread with Blueberries.

Yes, blueberries!! It’s a recipe from Dish & Tell: Recipes from the Heart (fittingly found in the “Morning Sweets & Coffee Treats” chapter) that came to me courtesy of my friend Sarah.

I had never thought to add blueberries to pumpkin bread, but I am here to tell you: it’s delightful! I love the little juicy pops of blueberry tucked into the warmly spiced bread.

Sarah and her mom, Colette, have made this bread for years, often baking it to give to others. And one of my favorite details? They like to bake the bread right in empty pumpkin cans, giving the little loaves their fun, round shape!

I’ll be sharing the recipe in my Substack newsletter this week, just in time for fall baking! If you’re not signed up yet, you can find the link in my bio, or send me a DM and I’ll happily add you to the list.😘
Much thanks to @oliverkelleyfarm for hosting me ye Much thanks to @oliverkelleyfarm for hosting me yesterday for a very fun Dish & Tell event in its historic farmhouse, built in 1876. 💕

It was the perfect setting to talk about how cherished family recipes connect us through the generations and to share a few recipes (and samples!) from my cookbook.💕

My absolute favorite part was hearing others share the treasured food memories and traditions that hold a special place in their hearts. We even had a table filled with heirloom recipe cards, family photos and personal cookbooks for a little show & tell—or, more appropriately, Dish & Tell!💕

From bonding over a shared love of sandwich loaf, to conversations about everything from sour cream raisin pie and gumdrop cookies to lefse and lutefisk, it was a day that reminded me exactly why I wrote Dish & Tell: Recipes from the Heart in the first place.💕

And next week, I’m taking Dish & Tell on the road for a few more book events! I can’t wait to hear more of your food memories, meet more of your family “keepers” and, of course, Dish & Tell with you along the way.🥰
I’m making this apple butter (pictured here in my I’m making this apple butter (pictured here in my cookbook!) today to tuck into little jars and gift to attendees at my book event* tomorrow. 🍎

It’s a century-old recipe from my friend Jess’ family, originally made by her Great-Grandma Drake more than 100 years ago. After taking a rather roundabout journey through a neighbor and a 4-H project, the recipe eventually found its way back to Jess and her family—where the tradition continues today.

And now I’m making a batch to share! One of my favorite things about old family recipes: you just never know where they’ll travel next.💕

I could (and do!) eat soup all year long, but now I could (and do!) eat soup all year long, but now that we’re entering the cozy ’BER months, I’m especially ready for soup season.

This weekend, I’ll be serving up this Chile Cheese Soup at my book event at Oliver Kelley Farm, along with a few other recipes from “Dish & Tell.” The recipe comes from my friend Jeanie and her mom, Linda, and is featured in the “Sentimental Soups and Grandma Bread” chapter of the cookbook.

I first tasted this soup while spending an afternoon baking alongside Linda, where we made her special cracked wheat bread that she is known for! Of course, Linda insisted I try the bread the way their family often enjoys it—alongside a warm bowl of her Chile Cheese Soup. And this weekend, I’ll be serving them together, too!

The soup is creamy and cheesy, with green chiles and a little paprika for just the right amount of smoky heat.

And apparently, it’s good enough to hop a fence for. 😂 Linda once made a batch and her granddaughter Morgan, who lives nearby, was so excited for a bowl that she literally hopped the fence to get to Grandma’s kitchen! ❤️

If you’re coming to Oliver Kelley Farm this weekend, come hungry!

Have I ever made a sweet roll before last month?! Have I ever made a sweet roll before last month?! Technically, no. But when the Minnesota State Fair announced a special category in its baking competition in honor of the late, great Marjorie Johnson, I knew I had to enter!

Marjorie has been such an inspiration to me—not just for blue-ribbon baking, but for the way she pursued her passion later in life. I believe she was 55 when she really dove into competitive baking and started bringing home blue ribbons from the fair.

As I approach that same age this month and having just wrote a cookbook, I think of Marjorie often and am reminded that it’s never too late for a second (or third!) act. 💕

Now, did my first attempt at sweet rolls exactly channel Marjorie’s blue-ribbon magic? Please see photographic evidence. 😂

But I entered and I tried something I’d never done before. And while my sweet roll may have looked a little sad sitting next to those beauties in the display case (Nicole @tenthousandbakes, your rolls are PERFECTION!), I have a feeling Marjorie would have appreciated the effort and would call that a win. ❤️

Congrats to all the award-winning bakers at the Minnesota State Fair this year!

This vibrant corner in the West End market is a must-stop each year for our family. We love the cheeky T-shirts, stickers and FUN accessories! If you are out at the fairgrounds, seek them out and say hi to my book! 😉
When I need a little recipe inspiration, my mom’s When I need a little recipe inspiration, my mom’s old Rubbermaid full of the family favorites I grew up with always comes through. I love this recipe for tuna salad…and apparently she did too, judging by how worn it is around the edges. 😂

Seeing the recipe sent me scrolling through old photos, and I found this one of the tuna salad complete with a side of toast of course! It was one of the last meals I had at my parents’ house with both my mom and dad.

We shared a lot of meals around that table, just the three of us, during my dad’s last few years. Nothing fancy, often the simplest of meals, but I’ll forever cherish those memories and think of my dad whenever I see shoestring potatoes!💕
