Snickers Salad, served as a dessert or a side, features chopped Granny Smith apples and little bites of Snickers bars that are mixed together with cream cheese and Cool Whip.
Snickers Salad?! Yes, you read that right. It’s another dessert-like salad that frequently pops up at potlucks and family get-togethers in our neck of the woods, and it happens to be one of my kids’ most-often requested dishes.
There are a few variations, but Snickers Salad typically includes Granny Smith apples and little bites of Snickers bars folded into a base of Cool Whip and cream cheese or Marshmallow Creme. Sometimes, with powdered sugar or vanilla pudding mixed in.
The version we make comes from my sister-in-law Marcia who got the recipe from her late aunt Carolyn.
Carolyn was a great cook and knew just what to bring to a party. Her niece Lynnsey (who is my niece too!) especially loved when Carolyn would make pickle dip (Um…I am going to need that recipe!). One of Lynnsey’s favorite memories of her aunt was when the new Taste of Home magazine would arrive, they would sit at the kitchen table together and look for the hidden toothpick (each issue featured a small, hidden illustration, and if you found it, you would qualify for a prize).
Marcia adds that Carolyn loved cooking and baking for her family, often making everyone’s favorite dishes for Christmas and Thanksgiving. “There was always so much food because she would make different versions based on everyone’s likes,” said Marcia.
From what I’ve heard, everyone loved her Snicker Salad so Carolyn’s version is the only one I need!
